The calculator One sale, five platforms
0 if you offer free shipping and build postage into the price. Not used for Poshmark, where the buyer pays Poshmark's label.
Your real label cost. Poshmark's prepaid label is paid by the buyer up to 5 lb, so it's $0 there.
eBay, Depop and Facebook charge their percentage on the tax too.

Where each sale's money goes
Each bar is the whole amount the sale brings in, split into what you keep, the platform's fee, the postage you pay and what the item cost you. Hover a segment for its figure, or open the table under the chart for every number.
Checked 10–11 October 2026, at each platform's own page. eBay: 13.6% of the whole order including sales tax, plus 40¢ per order over $10 (30¢ at $10 or less), most categories. Mercari: 10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. Poshmark: $2.95 under $15, 20% from $15; the buyer pays the shipping label. Depop (US): no selling fee; payment processing 3.3% + 45¢ on the total including shipping and tax. Facebook Marketplace, shipped orders from individual sellers: 10% of the whole transaction, $0.80 minimum (local sales paid in person: no fee). Promoted listings, boosts, buyer-side fees and heavier-label charges are not included. Fees change — check each platform's own page before you rely on a number.

How to read it The cheapest fee isn't always the most you keep
A platform's headline percentage is only one line of the sum. What decides what you keep is what the percentage is charged on (some include the shipping and the buyer's sales tax), whether there's a fixed charge per order, who pays the postage, and what you paid for the thing in the first place. Put the same sale through all five and the order can surprise you.
A worked example
A $34 kitchen tool, shipped free (so no shipping charged), costing you $6 to post and $4.60 to buy and pack, to a buyer paying 8% sales tax. eBay takes 13.6% of $36.72 plus 40¢ — about $5.39 — leaving $18.01. Mercari takes $3.40, leaving $20.00. Depop's processing is about $1.66, leaving $21.74. Facebook takes about $3.67, leaving $19.73. Poshmark takes 20% — $6.80 — but you pay no postage, leaving $22.60. On paper, Poshmark wins — but its buyer also pays $6.49 for the label, so the same $34 costs them $40.49. Whether your buyers will pay that, on that platform, is a question about buyers, not fees.
What this can't tell you
Which platform is best for you depends on where buyers for your kind of item actually are, and how long each sale takes you. A lower fee on a platform where things sell slowly can be the most expensive hour you spend. That's why the Reselling books pick a platform by fit and judge it on net per hour, not on its fee table.
Common questions
Why does eBay charge on the sales tax?
eBay's percentage applies to the total amount of the sale, which includes any sales tax it collects. You don't keep the tax — it goes to the state — but the fee is still worked out on it.
Is this advice about which platform to use?
No. It's arithmetic on the numbers you enter and the published fees as checked on the date above. Your own results depend on your buyers, your items and the platforms' current terms.
