THE FIVE-ITEM FINISHING CHECKLIST From "Digital Products — Basics", chapter 4 ================================================================ A product is not finished when you are tired of making it. It is finished when a stranger can buy it, open it, and get the result — with you nowhere in sight. Print this. Do not list the product until all five boxes are ticked. Each one is a refund you are choosing not to receive. [ ] 1 · IT DELIVERS THE ONE THING YOU PROMISED Read your own product sentence (the "so that..." line). Does the file actually produce that outcome? Not "contains information about" it — PRODUCES it. If the promise is "your tax return in an evening", can a buyer follow it start to finish and get there? [ ] 2 · A STRANGER CAN USE IT WITHOUT YOU Give it to one person who is not you and say nothing. Watch where they hesitate. Every question they have to ask you is a question every buyer will have and cannot ask. Fix the top two before you ship. [ ] 3 · IT OPENS, ON A DEVICE THAT IS NOT YOURS Open the actual file you will deliver on a different device or account. Wrong format, a broken font, a missing image, a template locked to your login — all invisible to you, all obvious to the buyer. Test the file they get, not the file you have. [ ] 4 · THE LICENCE IS STATED One line in the file and on the listing saying what they may and may not do with it (personal use? client work?). Silence here is the most common dispute in this whole business. (See the licence-wording sheet.) [ ] 5 · IT IS NAMED AND PACKAGED LIKE A PRODUCT A sensible filename, not "final_v3_ACTUAL.pdf". A cover or first page that says what it is. The buyer's first ten seconds decide whether they feel they bought something real or downloaded a mess. ⚠️ If you cannot tick box 1, stop. The other four polish a product that does not yet do its job, and no amount of polish sells a thing that does not work. ================================================================ Yours to keep — free, and no strings attached. This is one tool from the ePORTS Digital Products series. A worksheet gives you the "what"; the three books give you the "why" — the worked examples, the reasoning, and the costly mistakes you get to skip.
