THE GUARDRAIL -- FOR WHEN AI IS CONFIDENTLY WRONG From "AI for Your Business — Basics", chapter 7 ================================================================ AI can hand you an answer whose tone is flawless and whose facts are invented -- a made-up price, a date, a "policy" that isn't yours -- and it reads as calm and certain as the truth. The review gate (chapter 6) catches a wrong TONE at a glance. It cannot catch a wrong FACT. This does. ⚠️ A gatekeeper who reads the draft without checking the source isn't a guardrail -- they're a rubber stamp. Good grammar talks busy people out of checking. This rule stops that. THE PRINCIPLE: Never let AI have the final word on anything you're legally or financially responsible for. It drafts; a person with the authority checks the facts against a real source, and signs. That's just who carries the can -- you. THE RULE (four lines; pin it up) ================================================================ 1 - TRIGGER (which outputs get a fact-check -- not everything, just these) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Anything with a PRICE, a DATE, a PROMISE, a POLICY, or a legal or money figure. Tune this list to your business: ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ 2 - OWNER (who checks the high-stakes ones) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Checker: ____________________ Backup (when they're away): ____________________ 3 - AGAINST (check it against a real source -- never memory, never the AI itself) ---------------------------------------------------------------- A system of record OUTSIDE the tool. Name yours: Prices -> ______________________ (e.g. the live rate sheet) Dates / availability -> ______________________ (e.g. the diary) Policies -> ______________________ (e.g. the written policy) ______________________ -> ______________________ 4 - STOP ---------------------------------------------------------------- If there's no current, trustworthy source to check it against, it doesn't go. THE TEST, IN ONE SENTENCE FOR THE TEAM: "If you send an AI draft with a price or a date in it without checking the live source, you're signing my name to a guess." ================================================================ From AI for Your Business - Basics, chapter 7.
